Jean-Marie Robine è psicologo clinico e psicoterapeuta dal 1967 e terapeuta della Gestalt dal 1976. Dopo oltre 15 anni come psicologo, poi direttore, in un servizio sanitario pubblico per bambini, adolescenti e le loro famiglie, nel 1980 ha creato l'Istituto Francese di Gestalt Therapy (IFGT), il primo istituto di Gestalt-terapia creato in Francia che, ad oggi, ha formato centinaia o forse migliaia di gestalt-terapeuti non solo in Francia, ma anche in Europa, Europa dell'Est, Africa, Stati Uniti e America Latina. Si è formato in diversi approcci psicoterapeutici e, dopo vari training in Gestalt-terapia, il suo principale mentore e maestro è stato Isadore From, membro del gruppo fondatore. Oggi è membro effettivo dell'Istituto di Gestalt Therapy di New York.
È stato co-creatore della Societé Française de Gestalt, poi del Collège Européen de Gestalt-thérapie, società nazionali francesi per la GT, e anche co-creatore della European Association for Gestalt Therapy. È stato quindi presidente dell'EAGT nei primi anni Novanta.
Ha creato successivamente le due riviste francesi di Gestalt Therapy e ne è stato direttore per diversi anni. Poi ha aperto un'organizzazione no-profit per la pubblicazione di una serie di libri sulla terapia della Gestalt, l'Exprimerie. Sono stati pubblicati più di 55 libri di Gestalt Therapy, originali o traduzioni, per lo più in francese ma anche in inglese. È autore o curatore di 9 libri di GT, tradotti in diverse lingue (francese, inglese, spagnolo, italiano, portoghese, russo, serbo, polacco...). È il coeditore e l'editore dell'ultimo manoscritto di F. Perls - con i meravigliosi commenti di alcuni famosi colleghi - già disponibile in molte lingue, nonché editore di "Self - a polyphony of contemporary gestalt-therapists", pubblicato in molte lingue.
In pensione dalla direzione dell'IFGT dal 2007, rimane organizzatore e coordinatore dei programmi internazionali dell'IFGT, insegna soprattutto all'estero nei gruppi di supervisione, nei programmi post-laurea o nei corsi di formazione per supervisori e formatori, ma si gode anche la sua (parziale) pensione in campagna vicino a Bordeaux per coltivare i suoi ortaggi e alberi da frutto.
 

Jean-Marie Robine is a clinical psychologist and psychotherapist since 1967 and gestalt-therapist since 1976. After more than 15 years as a psychologist, then director, in a public health service for children, adolescents and their families, he created in 1980 the French Institute for Gestalt Therapy (IFGT), the first Gestalt-therapy Institute created in France which, to date, has trained hundreds or maybe thousands of gestalt-therapists not only in France but also in Europe, Eastern Europe, Africa, USA and Latin America. He had been trained in several psychotherapeutic approaches and, after several trainings in Gestalt-therapy,  his main mentor and teacher was Isadore From, a member of the founding group. He is now a full member of New York Institute for Gestalt Therapy
He has been co-creator of the Societé Française de Gestalt, then of Collège Européen de Gestalt-thérapie, national French societies for GT, and also co-creator of the European Association for Gestalt Therapy. Thus, he has been president of EAGT in the early nineties.
He created successively the 2 French Journals for Gestalt Therapy and had been their editor-in-chief during several years. Then he opened a non-profit organization for publishing a series of gestalt therapy books, l’Exprimerie. More than 55 Gestalt Therapy books, original or translations, have been published mostly in French but also some in English. He authored or edited 9 GT-books, translated in several languages (French, English, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Serbian, Polish…). He is the co-editor and publisher of the last manuscript from F. Perls -with wonderful comments from several famous colleagues- already available in many languages, and also editor of "Self – a polyphony of contemporary gestalt-therapists", published in many languages.
Retired from heading IFGT since 2007, he remains organizer and coordinator of the international programs of IFGT, he thus teaches mostly abroad supervision groups, post-graduate programs or training for supervisors and trainers, but also enjoys his (partial) retirement in the countryside near Bordeaux to grow his vegetables and fruit trees.
