Matthew McKay, PhD, è professore al Wright Institute, una scuola superiore universitaria di Psicologia a Berkeley, California. È co-direttore della Bay Area Trauma Recovery Clinic, ed in passato è stato direttore della clinica CBT di Berkeley. Ha condotto ricerche approfondite sulla Terapia dell'Accettazione e dell'Impegno (ACT) ed ha scritto più di 35 libri di psicologia e di self-help, tra cui "Couple skills", "ACT for Couple Skills", "Then Anger Hurts Your Relationship", "Thoughts & Feelings" e "The Dialectical Behavior Therapy Skills Workbook".
